Preparation, Attendance, and Pacing
It is vital that you read every assigned selection. Spark notes will not suffice.
In order to give you sufficient coverage of a wide range of literary genres, we must move quickly. Therefore, it is essential to read each selection and complete each assignment on time.
Participation in discussions,Socratic seminars, and other oral demonstration of literary knowledge will be considered part of your daily grade.
Technology components are required. Many computers are available at school if you do not have Internet access.
Those who are absent must get their makeup work from a fellow classmate or me the next day they attend school. This does not mean the next class meeting, but the very next day one attends school.
Projects or major assignments must be delivered on their due date unless one has major extenuating circumstances (i.e. death in the family, major illness, extended excused absence).
If you are part of a group and will be unable to be present, you must have your part of the presentation delivered to someone in your group before the missed class or you will not receive credit for it. I will extend considerations to this policy if I deem it a truly unavoidable absence. Please time your college visits, extracurricular activities, or other excursions carefully around your class obligations.
Course Grade
Quizzes and daily work count once.
Major assignments, projects, essays and tests count twice.
Essays may receive multiple grades: brainstorm/ graphic organizer; rough draft; peer revision; edited final draft.
